Continuous Professional Development ProgramContinuous Professional Development Program<p style="text-align:justify;">The Continuous Professional Development Program (CPD) conducts various capacity building and refresher courses for the teaching faculty of Higher Education Institutions across Pakistan. These workshops aim to provide the background and skills necessary for faculty members to participate positively in academic activities of the universities. Faculty Development Program for Pakistani UniversitiesFaculty Development Program for Pakistani Universities<strong class="ms-rteFontSize-4"><span style="line-height:107%;font-family:"times new roman", serif;">​​Faculty Development Program for Pakistani Universities</span></strong><span class="ms-rteFontSize-4">​</span><br><div><br></div><div>​The Faculty Development (Indigenous program for 2,000 Split PhD scholarships for faculty members of Pakistani HEC recognized Universities/DAIs having Master degree with minimum 18 years of education. Scholar will be required to start the initial research in Pakistan and at any point during research he/she would be required to proceed abroad for a maximum period of 6-12 months with the recommendations of local supervisor and approval/ acceptance of foreign supervisor for research / thesis work.<br></div><div><ul><li>PhD Scholarships has been designed for capacity enhancement of Non-PhD Faculty Members of Universities/DAIs.</li><li>Proposed program will provide a chance to non-PhD faculty members to pursue their PhD degree in Pakistani / world Recognized University /DAIs. </li><li>Program is proposed to encourage collaboration between Pakistani and World renown/recognized institutions.  </li><li>Program will also bring opportunities to develop research projects and simultaneously build capacity in the education system of both the partner countries.</li><li>Providing centralized leadership for enhancing the effectiveness of teaching and learning at Pakistan. It also provide an opportunity of learning abroad for research and development, instructional support to assist existing non-PhD faculty members.</li><li>Project will help in achieving​ goals identified in <span style="text-decoration:underline;">VISION 2025 </span>and <span style="text-decoration:underline;">MTDF 2010-15</span> of HEC.</li><li>The purpose of the FDP is to encourage and reward existing faculty for developing their teaching skills in key areas of their expertise. English Language Teaching Reforms ProjectEnglish Language Teaching Reforms Project<p>​</p><p style="text-align:justify;">In order to bring qualitative improvement in English Language Teaching and Learning Higher Education Commission in 2004 launched first ever exclusive language based project titled as English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR). This project aims at building the capacity of English Language Teachers in higher education sector in Pakistan for effective and sustainable development. The project is the part of overall vision of prospective plan 2020 and pertains to human resource development in English Language Teaching and research in Higher Education. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">After successful phase I which catered <strong>1398 </strong>teachers of colleges and universities, the ELTR launched its Phase II in 2010. HEC Research Travel GrantHEC Research Travel Grant<font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;text-align:justify;line-height:120%;"><span style="line-height:120%;font-family:"cambria",serif;font-size:12pt;"><font color="#000000"></font></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Scientific seminars, conferences and symposia act as a welcome source of motivation and information for the academic and scientific communities. These events provide tremendous opportunity to exchange the scientific outcomes of knowledge creation and problem solving. Scientific conferences are ideal places to find out what's advanced in specific field, observe the various debates and controversies under way, meet interesting people, make contacts for the future, and, in general, interact with professionals in their fields. Beyond knowing inspiring stories, the participants see how others solved problems similar, which may help move them past the roadblock in their own research. The contacts developed in these events may result in a new collaboration.  It's always amusing to put the names one has read on papers for years with actual faces at scientific conferences.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Higher Education Commission's Travel Grant Program aims at providing the opportunity to the academic and scientific communities to boost their research activities in the public and private sector universities and degree awarding institutes of Pakistan. Under this program, faculty and Ph.D. scholars are extended financial assistance for presentation of their research papers at national or international forums, which facilitates the interaction with skilled academia and researchers in the relevant field. Master Trainers Faculty Development ProgramMaster Trainers Faculty Development Program<p><strong>There are two Master Trainer Faculty Development Programs:</strong></p><ol><li>Master Trainer Faculty Professional Development Program</li><li>Training Effectiveness Program for MT-FPDP Alumni at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand</li></ol><p><strong></strong> </p><p><strong>MASTER TRAINERS-FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM:</strong></p><p>This program is up to 8 weeks long and is a fully sponsored national in-service residential Master Trainer's professional teaching certificate program. It is held at LID Islamabad and is designed for Higher Education teaching faculty to develop their research and professional skills.</p><p> </p><p>Twenty-one such batches of MT-FPDP have been organized so far by the Learning Innovation Division. Faculty members of different public and HEC-funded private sector universities received professional certification for teaching, research, and management skills. Master Trainers lead a similar training in their respective institutions. </p><p> </p><p>To date, 783 HEI faculty members have received this training and are serving as Master Trainers in their respective institutions. The 28<sup>th </sup>Batch will be inaugurated in the month of July 2016.</p><p> </p><p><strong>TRAINING EFFECTIVENESS PROGRAM FOR MT-FPDP ALUMNI AT THE ASIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, THAILAND:</strong></p><p>This is an exclusive three-week international program meant as a follow-up training for the best performing alumni of the Master Trainer Faculty Professional Development Program (MT-FPDP). The program aims to further expose them to international academic practices and research, and to build their capacity to run the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Centers at their universities.</p><p> </p><p>This training program is conducted at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. Pakistan Program for Collaborative ResearchPakistan Program for Collaborative Research<p style="text-align:justify;">Pakistan Programme for Collaborative Research allows for university faculty working in Pakistan to go abroad or for researchers from technological advanced countries to come to Pakistan. Preference is given to faculty members visiting foreign institutions that have recognized excellence in the relevant research area. The visits can last between one to four weeks but can be extended to more than four months in case of sabbaticals. The visits are limited to one person (the visiting fellow) going to one institute/department in the host institution. The visiting fellow and a person from the host institution (the host) are co-applicants of the proposal. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The main aim of this funding, which is open to all fields of research, is to initiate or to consolidate international collaborations. To reach this aim, short research activity between the host institution and the visiting fellow should be carried out during the stay. </p><p>Preference will be given to activities that will support:</p><ol style="text-align:justify;"><li>Submission of papers to peer-reviewed scientific journals (co-authored by the visiting fellow and the host). The paper must be an effort of the joint research work being carried out by the applicants. </li><li>Preparation of joint research proposals to be submitted to funding bodies. There must be previous communication with the applicant on the matter.</li><li>Training for lab techniques in Pakistan for postgraduate students. </li><li>Scientific or academic sabbatical in Pakistani universities.</li><li>Curriculum review by the Pakistani universities and/or HEC.</li><li>Academic consultancy to review of processes and procedures in the universities and/or HEC.</li></ol><p style="text-align:justify;">The aim is to have an exchange of knowledge that is beneficial to both co-applicants.
