FIVE WEEKS GRE-TRAINING IN MUET JAMSHORO
The US-Pak Knowledge Corridor was established in June 2015, as a result of the US-Pak Education, Science & Technology Working Group (ESTWG) under the bilateral strategic dialogue. As the Government of Pakistan envisions enhancing enrollment in tertiary education up to 7 million by 2025, for this purpose, US-Pak Knowledge corridor aims to provide opportunities for 10,000 scholars for Pakistani faculty development in the US. In the initial phase, HEC is focusing on sending 1500 PhD scholars at the leading US universities. US-Pak Knowledge Corridor is envisioned as a "paradigm shift" in terms of developing human capital/education, ultimately complementing economic growth in the long run.
Under the Umbrella of "US-Pak Knowledge Corridor", HEC designed a program of holding "Talent Farming Conferences and Workshops" for interested candidates to pursue Doctoral studies at US universities in selected fields. This component of the project aims to train 2000 potential candidates annually for admission in US universities through preparatory classes for English language, GRE or others as per admission requirements of US universities.
Under the Talent farming exercise a Five weeks comprehensive training was held at The Center of Advance Studies-in Water, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro form November 23, 2018 to December 27, 2018. Total of 120 Candidates received to the Project Management Unit out of which 60 participated in Session One and Session Two has started from January 3, 2019 with 60 more candidates.
Mr. Wasim S. Hashmi Syed, Advisor HEC welcomed the participants and introduced the project via Skype, while Mr. Hassan Rind was facilitating the trainers of as well as the trainees during the session. Nominees from the University of Sindh Jamshoro, Mehran University and Engineering and technology (MUET) Jamshoro, Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam, Liaquat University nf Medical and health Sciences, (LUMHS) Jamshoro, Shaheed Zulfiqat Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) Hyderabad and ISRA University Hyderabad participated in the training.
Professor Dr. Sajjad Ahmad, Ph.D., P.E. Department Chair and Professor, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and other guest speakers also joined the Session and guided the participants on How to submit applications, and how write statement of purpose for other FAQs .
The objective of the series of the training is to enable the academically qualified Pakistani students/faculty to start Ph.D. studies in US Universities in the critically needed fields, To train potential candidates annually by selected Pakistani Universities &"US Educational Foundation In Pakistan (USEFP)"under Talent Farming Scheme for admission in US Universities through preparatory classes for Eng. language, GRE as per admission requirements of US universities. The trainees will later on be able to seek admission in top ranked US Universities.
This is worth mentioning here that GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for most Graduate Schools in the United States which aims to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired over a long period of learning.
